Two-Phase Treatment in Antioch

Two-phase treatment is a specialized approach to orthodontics designed to optimize the alignment of a child's teeth and jaw structure. It involves using braces at two times in your child’s life to achieve the most ideal results. This treatment strategy is particularly beneficial during the “early treatment phase,” which typically takes place between the ages of seven and ten.

The Early Treatment Phase

The early treatment phase is a critical window of opportunity in a child's dental development. During this phase, a child's jaw and teeth are still in the early stages of growth and development. This allows Dr. Beninati to address various orthodontic issues more effectively. Some key advantages of the early treatment phase include:

  • Avoiding Unnecessary Extractions: With timely intervention, Dr. Beninati can guide your child's teeth into their correct positions, reducing the likelihood of needing extractions in the future.

  • Guiding Adult Teeth: Early treatment can help ensure that permanent adult teeth emerge in proper alignment, reducing the risk of overcrowding or misalignment.

  • Correcting Issues Proactively: By addressing orthodontic issues during the early phase, Dr. Beninati can correct problems before they become more complex, potentially minimizing the need for extensive treatment in the future.

Phase Two

The goal of the second phase of treatment is to make sure each tooth has an exact location in the mouth where it is in harmony with the lips, cheeks, tongue, and other teeth. When this equilibrium is established, the teeth will function together properly.

The second phase begins when all permanent teeth have erupted, and usually requires braces on all the teeth for an average of 24 months. Retainers are worn after this phase to ensure your child retains his or her beautiful smile.

Determining the Need for Two-Phase Treatment

It's highly recommended that your child visit Dr. Beninati around the age of seven. This allows for the early detection of orthodontic issues and provides the best opportunity for effective intervention.

To determine if your child requires two-phase orthodontic treatment, a thorough examination and X-rays are essential. Here's how the process works:

  • Examination: Dr. Beninati will assess your child's oral health, jaw structure, and tooth alignment. This examination helps identify any potential issues or misalignments.

  • X-Rays: X-rays provide Dr. Beninati with detailed insights into your child's dental development. These images help in diagnosing problems that may not be visible during a visual examination alone.

Our Antioch orthodontic office offers free consultation appointments, including complimentary X-rays. Taking advantage of these services at our Antioch orthodontic office can be the first step in ensuring your child's dental health and a beautiful smile.
